A slight chill ran down Shadow’s spine as the warm breath entered his ear. He looked into Sonic’s eyes with a soft smile.
“Sonic...” Shadow whispered.
“Yes, Shadow?” Sonic asked, gently stroking his quills.
“Never leave my side.” He whispered throwing his arm’s around the blue hedgehog and pulling him close. Sonic was caught off guard by the sudden move, but returned it and rested his forehead against Shadows.
“I love you Shadow. I always will” He whispered, staring into Shadow’s ruby-red orbs. His stomach had twisted into a knot. He was happy he could say that to Shadow without being rejected or hated. It’s what he’s truly wanted for the past two years. Having to keep his feelings bottled up for so long can drive someone crazy.
“I love you, too...” Shadow whispered with a smile. He leaned in and connected lips with his counterpart. Sonic’s eyes widened, but they quickly closed. Shadow squeezed Sonic tighter, never wanting this moment to end. He was finally happy. They both were. They had found their equals, their perfect match. Shadow pulled away after a few minutes and gazed into Sonic’s loving emerald eyes
“I’m sorry I snapped at you before.” Shadow sighed. Now, he felt bad at being mad a Sonic.
“It’s alright.” Sonic said with a soft smile.
“What are we going to tell everyone?” Shadow asked.
“Well.. We don’t have to tell them yet.” He said, running his right hand along Shadow’s quills.
“It doesn’t matter to me.” Shadow said closing his eyes and moving his head into Sonic’s soft strokes.
“Wanna just.. Hang out for a little while longer?” Sonic asked his blue counterpart.
“Sure..” Shadow said, opening his eyes and looking into Sonic’s. Shadow walked back to the tree and sat with Sonic right next to him. The two hedgehogs looked at the ocean, with Shadow’s head rested on Sonic’s right shoulder and Sonic’s arm around Shadow.
“I’m glad you’re always here.” Shadow said, looking up at Sonic.
“I am too, Shads.” Sonic said, looking down at Shadow and kissing his nose lightly, causing the dark hedgehog to chuckle softly.
Shadow sighed, re-resting his head against Sonic and wrapping his arms around him. He hadn’t been this happy since he was with Maria. He knew that much. Suddenly, something down the beach caused a small explosion, startling the two hedgies.
“What the..?” Shadow started until he saw a robot with a too familiar mark on it. He visibly paled in the face and held onto Sonic for dear life.
“Shadow? Are you… Hell no. Stay here.” Sonic said, getting out of Shadow’s grasp and getting up. Shadow didn’t want to be alone, but didn’t want to get in the way of what ever Sonic was going to do.
Sonic walked up to the robot, red in the face again.
“What the hell, Eggy?!” He yelled angrily.
“Damn it, Sonic! You’re going to pay!” He yelled as rockets launched towards the blue hedgehog. Sonic dodged, flipping then landing on his feet.
“Eggy, you’re going down.” He growled, charging the robot. He couldn’t even touch the robot because some sort of force field was around it, shocking Sonic and sending him back.
Sonic quickly got up, not caring about the few burns he had already. He jumped up and tried to spin dash the robot again, this time pushing himself through the painful barrier and hitting the robot’s head. He fell back, barely landing on his feet, noticing that the attack didn’t even scratch the robot’s paint!
Shadow watched in horror as his koi was becoming injured. He wanted to help, but for some reason couldn’t move.
“Muahahaha… My turn.” Eggman said from the robot’s speaker. More rocket’s launched from the robot’s right shoulder, along with bullet’s from the finger’s. Sonic was barely able to dodge the bullets, but got hit by one of the explosions, sending him back. His body was severely damaged. If he hadn’t tried to hit the robot dead on, he’d still be able to fight. But at this point, he can’t even get up!!
Shadow’s heart stopped when Sonic didn’t get up, tears streaming down his face. He looked at the robot and his eyes narrowed. He didn’t care who was in the robot. Right now, he was going to destroy the damn thing. He got up, eyes full of hate and rage and quickly made his way to the robot.
“Shadow. You came to me!” Eggman said in a sly voice. Shadow didn’t even wince at his voice, just let out an angered growl.
“You fat ass bitch. Chaos spear!|” Shadow shouted. 8 bolts of lightning show from the sky, pierced the barrier and hit the robot, paralyzing it for a moment.
“How DARE you!!” Eggman shouted through the speaker again.
Shadow quickly picked up Sonic’s now limp form and ran away a little. He then, gently placed him down, running a hand along one of his quills and ran back to the robot.
“This is my only chance.. Chaos…” He started. He began to rise into the air a few feet, his quills moving wildly as his fur turned a bright red. “BLAST!!” He finished. The dark hedgehog became the center of an explosion, erupting about 100 feet around him, taking in the robot. When it met with the giant creation, the robot added to the explosion. After a minute, all that was left was scrap. Shadow gently reconnected with the sand and ran back to Sonic. He took the hedgehog in his arms and cradled him gently.
“Please Sonic.. Please.. Don’t leave me..” He whispered, tears streaming down his face. Shadow got up, crying silently and made his way to the hospital. Because of Sonic’s extensive wounds, he was afraid they couldn’t be able to do anything. He had to try though. Shadow looked at the furry in his arms and gave him a light kiss on the forehead, just before reaching the hospital. He ran into the emergency room and the nurse behind the counter called for a bunch of doctors who ripped the hedgehog from Shadow and rushed through another door.
‘What am I going to do if he’s..’ Shadow thought. Right now, he just wanted to be by himself, because he knew it was his fault. It was his fault Sonic fought Eggman. His fault that he was too afraid to fight his own battles. He rushed out of the hospital and to the jungle, going to the highest tree and crying.
