The Pain of Friendship by Icestar

Okay... I am feeling very low now... :sigh: would someone review? pretty uber chibi please?

:silence:

Aw bugger... :hangs head dejectedly: Anyway, new chapter of this up... :looks back at other chapters: Man those are SHORT!

A few hours later, Metal came in, bearing a tray. “HERE” he said raspingly. On the tray was a pitcher and some bowls, fabric, and some salve. “DR ROBOTNIK WANT YOU TO LOOK AFTER HIM.”

Sonic nodded after a moment, taking the proffered tray form Metal. “Thanks.” He said hesitantly. Metal just walked away.

Sonic turned back to Shadow. The ebony hedgehog hadn’t regained consciousness. He was slightly worried about the effects the drugs were having though. He poured some water into a bowl, and dipped some fabric in the water. Thus prepared, he started to wash out Shadows’ wounds. “I know this’s gotta hurt, but I have to.” He spoke to the comatose hedgehog. Once they were clean, he placed the salve on, and wrapped more fabric around the black hedgehogs’ torso. Returning his gaze to Shadows’ face, he realised the crimson orbs were open and aware, though slightly dazed.

Shadow pulled a face. “Damn, pissed him off didn’t I?” he noticed the extra weight around his wrists, and paled. Trying to take his mind off things, he looked around, and noticed the tear tracks on Sonics’ face. “You okay blue boy?” he asked worriedly.

Sonic smiled, albeit weakly. “Yeah, you’re the one that got hurt.” He looked down at himself, noting the blood with shock. “Umm… That’s yours.” He said, trying to reassure Shadow.

Said hedgehog nodded. “Good I’ve caused you enough grief.”

Sonic opened his mouth to disagree, but Shadow kept talking.

“Yes. I did. I made you worry for over a year, and now Eggman catches you… you should escape.”

“No!” Sonic blurted out. “Eggman’s crazy-”

Shadow shook his head sadly. “You could already be gone.” He accused.

“If you think I’m leaving you with that psycho – he was going to kill you.” Sonic started pacing.

“What makes you think I can be killed?” Shadow asked, a trace of his previous attitude showing through.

Sonic snorted. “Even if he can’t kill you, he can still drug you senseless.”

Shadow was silent. “Why do you care?”

Sonic didn’t answer for a long while. “Because you’re a friend. I would do the same for Tails or Knux.”

Shadow nodded. “Why don’t you go get your friends help?” he offered.

“I already said, I’m not leaving you with that psycho.”

Shadow smiled gently. “Thanks.”

“Rise and shine.” Eggman shouted.

Sonic jumped in front of Shadow. “Piss off Egg-butt. Leave him alone.”

Eggman pretended to think for a moment. “No” He smirked.

Metal suddenly opened the cell, and held Sonic while Eggman grabbed Shadow. Again he walked to the room at the end of the hallway.

“Shadow!” Sonic shouted, thrashing. He knocked metal off. Nevertheless, Eggman and Shadow were already out of range.

Metal glared. “THERE WAS NO NEED TO DO THAT.” he said disapprovingly. He walked out of the cell.

Sonic sighed. As it was, he couldn’t help Shadow. “Some friend I am.” He muttered bitterly.

An hour later, Sonic was very worried. He had heard a pained yelp from the room Eggman had dragged Shadow to.

Soon after Eggman walked out, again pulling Shadow after him.

The black hedgehogs arm was broken in three places.

Sonic hissed, knowing from experience how painful broken bones could be. He wondered fleetingly how Eggman had actually broken them.

Eggman looked uncharacteristically pleased.

“What are you so happy about?” Sonic asked venomously.

“Do you know how hard it is to get him to make a sound?” Eggman asked. “Now you two be good.”

Metal came in with some pieces of wood. He handed them over wordlessly.

“Blue boy.” Shadow said weakly. “Can you set these for me? Coz otherwise it’ll heal wrong.”

Sonic nodded, biting his lip. He grabbed Shadows arm and cracked the bones into their original positions.

The black hedgehog yelped. “I forgot… how much… it… hurts… having bones set.” He panted.

Sonic nodded distractedly, pacing the cell.

“What’s wrong?” Shadow asked, trying to tie the piece of wood to his arm.

Sonic smiled sheepishly. “I'm not used to staying in the same place for so long.”

Shadow blinked.

“How do you stand it? I mean, you love running as much as me.”

“I grew up on ARK. There wasn’t much of a chance to run, except when the professor wanted to test something. I didn’t get the chance to run freely until Ivan released me. You, however, grew up running around. It’s an integral part of your life.”

Sonic nodded, after a slight hesitation. “I guess that’s why we’re so different – waitasec, Ivan?”

“Yeah.” Shadow smirked. “He was one of the professors’ grandchildren” he lowered his voice. “You know he managed to get himself locked in the rest rooms on ARK once.”

Sonic smiled, though it was a ghost of his usual, and started pacing again. He didn’t notice Shadows’ looks of guilt, then determination.

Okay. I am going to go on a sulk-fest now. Until I get ONE review, I'm not gonna post more of this. :chibi eyes: please review. I have major self esteem problems, especially with the way I have been treating Shadow in all my fics. :starts to cry: why can I never write anything Fluffy with him? WHY?
